Cyber security experts suggest changing one’s password every 72 days to keep one’s account safe. If that is not reason enough to change your password, you might also want to consider using different passwords for different accounts. That is why you need to know how to change your Gmail password.
Luckily, Google has made changing Gmail password very easy. Just follow these simple steps and your password will be changed in no time.
It should be noted that your Gmail is connected to your Google account. This means that you will not be changing your Gmail password but rather your Google Account password.
Google account is connected to Google Search, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Play Store, Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google+, Google Translate and Google Photos. Keep in mind that once you change your password it will be changed for all these features.
Step 1: Login to Gmail
The first thing you need to do is to make sure that you are logged in to your Gmail account. Do so by clicking on this link. You should see something similar to this picture.
Enter your email or your phone number and click on the blue Next button. You will be transferred to this screen next.
On this screen you will need to enter your password. Once you have entered it click on Next. If you have entered all the information correctly you will be logged into your Gmail account. Click here if you have trouble with the login process.
Step 2: Go to your Google account
Now that you have logged into your Gmail account successfully it is time go to your Goggle account. Once logged in to Gmail you will see something akin to this picture(may be somewhat different depending on which layout you chose when you made your Gmail account)
On the top right corner, you will see the first letter of your email address name (in this case it is a pink circle with a white letter T inside of it). Click on it. A rolldown menu will appear and will look like this.
Click on the blue tab that says Google Account and a new tab will open.
Step 3: Changing your password
Now you have reached your Google Account. It should look like this.
Click on the first card which reads Sign-in and security and a new page will open.
On the right side of the page, bellow Signing in to Google there is card called Password & sign-in method. Here is a magnified version of that part of the page.
Now you will need to click directly on where it says Password. You will be redirected, and Google will ask you to verify your identity by typing in your password once again.
Once you have typed in the password you will be taken to a webpage which looks like so.
Type in the new password and retype it once again, then click on the blue button which reads CHANGE PASSWORD.
IF you have done everything according to instruction your password will have changed, and you will see this message.
