Note - French Shore

Newfoundland was a British colony, but the French had secured fishing rights off the so-called "French shore" in the aftermath of the Seven Years War (1756-1763). These rights saw ongoing disputes and by 1904, with the Entente Cordiale between France and Great Britain, the French relinquished their rights. They maintained the tiny islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon off the coast of Newfoundland to this day.
