Note - James G. Blaine

James G. Blaine (1830-1893) was the U.S. Secretary of State under Benjamin Harrison (and previously under the Garfield/Arthur administration). He is associated with the shift from the country's isolationist posture of the nineteenth century to a more active role in global affairs, particularly in Latin America. This transition would later be referred to as the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. Learn more about James G. Blaine.
