Bath is currently the largest city in the county of Somerset, England. It is notably named after its Roman baths. The city started out as a spa and became known for its hot springs. At the time of Mrs. MacArthur’s past, which is most likely the late 18th century or early 19th century, Bath had become a fashionable British spa town and attracted many notable visitors, including wealthy families.
