Canadian General Electric

The CGE KE 860 Electric Kettle was manufactured in Barrie, Southern Ontario, by the Canadian General Electric Company (CGE), which strategically selected the location due to its proximity to Toronto, robust transportation infrastructure, and the appliance market.

The Canadian General Electrical Company (CGE) held dominance in the appliance market, tracing its origins to a late-19th century merger between the Edison Electric Light Company of Canada and the Thomson-Houston Electric Light Company. Established to circumvent tariffs and other regulations, CGE operated in both Montreal, Quebec, producing large metal stamped goods like refrigerators, and in Barrie, Ontario, manufacturing smaller appliances.
