Copyrights Clearance
While permission to share the photographic slides that constitute David Wurfel digital archive was easily requested and given, there are other kinds of materials within David Wurfel fonds that have required more steps to be taken (because of the various actors involved) and more time to be waited in order to secure permission from publishers to share the materials through a digital archive. This is the case of a small collection that David Wurfel had of pamphlets, flyers, stickers, and sample ballots used by various political parties for the 1987 legislative election in the Philippines. These campaign materials can be found physically in David Wurfel fonds hold at Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections, York University -Box 2006-063/006 (4). These materials were printed out by a variety of printing houses and only some of them actually indicate which printing company. At the end, the possibilities of contacting the traceable printing companies and their granting of permission to use the materials will define whether they will be part of David Wurfel digital archive or not.
In my processes of securing permission from right holders in the Canadian context I have been accompanied and guided by knowledgeable people from York University such as Anna St. Onge, to whom I am infinitely grateful.
