Design Stories: Exploring Everyday Things

Electrohome

Electrohome, based in Kitchener and widely known, was one of Canada’s largest manufacturers of consumer electronics at the time, ranging from food mixers, fans, humidifiers, and car radios. They also specialized in furniture-styled radios that could “fit into any furnished home”. Besides being involved in the home entertainment industry (phonographs, radios, television, etc) they also had a floor of their production plant dedicated to creating furniture.

Electrohome sold its own branded radios, but the RM–315 was sold under Eaton’s brand name “Viking”. The brand Viking was a private label exclusive to Eaton’s, which may also explain limited documentation.
