Imprisoned in the Old Gaol at Plymouth

Along with hundred of his fellow crew members, Manuel Joseph was sent to prison in Plymouth, Great Britain, after the Duc d'Aquitaine was captured by the British. The rôle specifies that he was sent to the "vielle prison" while many others were sent to the "prison neuve."

After this point, Manuel Joseph no longer appears in the French East India Company records. Did he die in prison? The war went on for another six years, so it is possible he languished in a British prison for as long. Perhaps he was ultimately released and made his way back to Portugal or France, or back to a life at sea. But, as far as we can tell, he never again served on French East India Company vessel.
