Investigate the Torcan 886P

Initial Observations

The Torcan 886P fan is a non-oscillating desk fan that can be tilted upwards and downwards. Rather than having an on/off switch, the fan turns on once the two-prong plug is connected to an electrical outlet. While most of the fan is made of metal, small black pads, possibly made of rubber, are placed at the base to help hold the fan in place. The round manufacturer’s plate reads “Model 886P CY. 60 115 volts .5 amps” and “Rotor Electric Co. Ltd. Toronto” and displays a sans serif Torcan logo. Based on online research and comparison, the fan was likely produced and sold during the 1950s.
