New Books
At Félix Alcan - Hypnotism, by Albert Bonjean. The author studies the therapeutic benefits of hypnotism. In the second part of the work, he examines, from a legal perspective, how far the practice of a science with such stunning effects could go.
At Hachette - Bengal, by Miss Zénaïde Fleuriot. This new book by the author of charming and educational tales contains a story whose content and form will make for a compelling reading for all those who enjoy things said with a simplicity full of grace and charm.
The Snow Blockade, by Bret Harte translated by Mrs. Van de Velde. This is a novel about travel and adventure in the United States, which will give the reader the experience of all sorts of emotions, while familiarizing them with American customs.
At Ollendorf - Neither God nor Master, by Georges Darny. This title, which might frighten good souls, is only ironic. It is the maxim of an old doctor who is a materialist and a skeptic, and does not even believe in his own art. Married for a second time to a woman who draws loyalty, devotion and self-sacrifice from religion, he ends up, in the course of a long illness, being touched by the Christian virtues of the one who watches over his bedside, and he dies a Christian. This conversion will lead, as predicted, to that of his children, brought up outside of the Catholic faith and unbelievers like their father.
