Curating the Story Museum: A Resource for Educators

The Children’s Book Bank

The Children’s Book Bank is an initiative that came together in 2008 by a group of dedicated individuals who saw the value in making sure all children had access to books. Through this initiative, the book bank provides free literacy and reading support to high-needs neighbourhoods and communities in and around Toronto. And, they offer their visitors a book to take home for free. The Children’s Book Bank provides group visits for local schools, storytimes, after school activities, holiday programs, and more. They also have books for children from birth to age 12 and have recently acquired a Teen Book Bank in their storefront space. The book bank’s YouTube channel also provides online storytimes and mental health awareness initiatives through picture books. In an age where technological reach and online presence is key, the Children’s Book Bank has continued to spread their message for a love of reading to children of all ages both in-person and online.

Mixture between educational/learning/story site and a charity initiative
Giving free used and new books to promote reading
Trying to make reading fun and interesting, not like a chore so that children grow up interested in reading
