The Voyage of the Ville d'Archangel (1777-1778)

The Ville d'Archangel was a sailing vessel owned by Homberg. It had a crew of 47, and a cargo capacity of 400 tonnes. Under the command of Jean Pottier de L’Horme, the Ville d'Archangel travelled from Lorient to India and the Mascarenes and back.

On 6 May 1777, Joséph Tréguier was hired onto the voyage as a replacement at Chandannagar. He only managed a wage of 20 livres per month, much less than the last time he had been hired as a replacement in South Asia (26 lives on the Digue).

A year later the ship returned to Lorient, landing on 27 May 1778. This was perhaps the first time Tréguier had been home in over four years. The available records suggest he settled down after this point. He is only listed on one additional voyage, and this not for another six and only a coastal vessel that remained in the vicinity of Lorient to service local farms.
