It was built by Gilles Cambry at the Lorient Dockyard in 1753. It had 20 cannons, a crew of 133, and a cargo capacity of 650 tonnes. Under the command of Captain Jean-Christophe d’Argis de La Châtre, the Prince de Conti travelled to South Asia and back between March 1754 and April 1756. By the time it returned to Europe, the Seven Years' War had begun, and the ship proceeded to patrol the coast of Spain for several months before it was taken by the British.
